How many Calgary pizza restaurants use some
variation of "we
deliver fresh, hot pizza straight to your door"? Probably all of them,
right? After all, who would order from a place that said "lukewarm
pizza, slightly soggy, delivered to your door around 30 - 40 minutes
after we cooked it"?
But hey, experience tells us that
truly fresh, hot and crispy pizza can
only
be had
in one of three ways. Either make it at home yourself, or pile
the family into the car and head off to your favorite Calgary pizza
location to dine in.
Did you ever notice how delivered pizza is a bit soggy?
There's a lot of moisture under the bottom of your pie and even the box
itself is a bit soggy. You can blame the laws of physics and our old
friend condensation for that less-than-tasty experience. You see, when
hot steaming pizza is shoveled into your typical cardboard pizza
delivery box, it keeps right on "steaming". And it's that steam that
causes condensation, water vapor, which first condenses on the inside
top of the box and then falls like a gentle mist right onto the top of
your pizza. Excess moisture runs to the bottom of the box where it
creates that familiar warm, sorry platform that your prize pizza is
resting on.
There's nothing that the average Calgary pizza restaurant can do
about it.
I said "There's nothing that the AVERAGE Calgary pizza restaurant can
do about it." Well,
Bona Roma (Italian for
Good Rome as in Good Italian food like the Roman's enjoy) is
definitely NOT your average Calgary pizza place. Thanks to Bona
Roma family member Brian, the patriarch of the Bona Roma family, who
nearly fell out of bed when he came up with the idea of the
"mobile pizza kitchen", "fresh and hot" takes on a whole new
meaning.
And what an idea it was! Tired of the soggy pizza box saga, Brian
turned his attention to the phrase "we deliver fresh, hot pizza
straight to your door" and decided to make that slogan a reality.
That's how those fully-equipped Calgary pizza kitchen-on-wheels trucks
came to be such a familiar site in Springbank and Bearspaw where family
members Jason and Justin are busy cooking pizza to go in their portable
pizza kitchens while en route to your home, corporate
events, or any other type of catering occasion including feeding hungry
film crew members who are busy making their latest epics within the
greater Calgary area!
So, while nearly all Calgary
pizza restaurants may WANT you to believe that they deliver
"fresh, hot pizza straight to your door", now you know that only
one is telling you the truth!
